Lauds VertitechIT for Implementing Foundational Technologies Lancaster, Pennsylvania, January 16, 2014: After an extensive overhaul of its entire network infrastructure by VertitechIT, Lancaster General Health has received the prestigious Stage 7 Acute Care Award from the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Analytics. HIMSS designated LGH as one of America’s most technology-driven institutions in the adoption of an electronic medical records (EMR) environment. LGH is ranked in the top 3% nationwide and is the first full-service hospital in Pennsylvania to receive the commendation.
One of the key factors for a successful electronic medical record (EMR) adoption and launch is that you need a sound foundation. These EMR systems become the lifeline on how organizations deliver and transform care. Reliability and availability are crucial to the success of any system. Early on in LGH’s journey, 3 months prior to a major go-live, this foundation became suspect. Gary Davidson, Senior Vice President and CIO, turned to VertitechIT to help identify the solution and correct the problem in time so as not to impact LGH’s scheduled EMR go-live. “When you have a network of our size that crashes for no immediate and apparent reason, you have no time to waste. VertitechIT was able to quickly isolate the problem, and helped us bring the network back safely and restore it.”
That led Davidson to request that VertitechIT CEO Michael Feld lead a team to review the health system’s entire network infrastructure. “We recommended the hospital change vendors since their existing equipment would have been incapable of handling the increased data traffic,” says Feld. VertitechIT also recommended and oversaw the installation of the revised infrastructure. The expanded network went live on time, enabling the hospital to go live on-time with its EMR system.
In 2005, HIMSS Analytics launched the EMR Adoption ModelSM (EMRAM) to track adoption of EMR applications within hospitals and health systems. The EMRAM scores hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics™ Database on their progress in completing 8 stages (0-7), with the goal of reaching Stage 7. Beginning in 2009, the HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 Award honors those hospitals achieving the highest EMRAM level.
In winning the Acute Care Award, HIMSS surveyors wrote that LGH is using technology to drive change and that device integration is “leading edge.” Davidson added that, “VertitechIT has helped us ensure that our electronic medical record foundation is stable, reliable and rock solid."
